Counselling to help you find hope & direction for lasting change.

Hi there,

I’m Dana Owen, M.A., CPC., Registered Counselling Therapist.

I am a counsellor, homeschool teacher, wife, and mother. I have been living and practicing counselling in the Calgary and Cochrane area since 2002. I provide an integrated counselling approach which includes attachment theory, cognitive behavioural therapy and narrative therapy.

I have extensive experience working with children and families in the Calgary and Rockyview School Districts providing individual and family counselling and family school liaising. I have taught counselling at the undergraduate level at post secondary institutions in Alberta. I offer workshops on strengthening the parent/child relationship.

I follow the Neufeld attachment-based developmental approach, Narrative Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I am certified in the Gottman approach to couples therapy and Taylor Johnson Temperament Analysis. In addition, I am a Professional Equine Facilitated Wellness Certification Candidate (dual certification as a Learning Professional and Mental Health Professional).

Focus areas include anxiety, depression, loss, parenting, pre-marriage and marriage counselling.

Vision

CARE

I am committed to helping you work through life’s difficult challenges so that you can remain caring towards yourself and others. For children and adolescents, keeping their hearts soft will assist them in exploring emotions well and being flexible to change.

CHANGE

Counselling is really all about change. The goals you seek to reach are worked on together in sessions so you can successfully create the changes you need. I will tailor the use of therapeutic models in order to make that change accessible to you.

COURAGE

I believe that you are stronger than you might think you are. The process of therapy is meant to help you find courage to face your situation and all its challenges. I endeavour to help you be brave when you need to be and help you find the reward in that experience.
